Benefits of Yoga

Yoga benefits the body and the mind. Yoga is a Sanskrit word translated as union or “to yoke”. This is meaning to join the mind, body and soul.

Yoga focuses on a mixture of physical stretches, relaxation, breathing techniques, meditation and posture.

There are many styles of yoga great for beginners. Also, yoga can be practiced anywhere.

Meditation and Mindfulness

Learning to match your movement and breathing during yoga helps the mind to focus.

Being mindful to the physical poses and carefully thought out breathing techniques helps to relax into meditation.

Improve Flexibility

The poses are meant to improve your range of motion and help build strength. If any of your muscles are tight, adding more stretches into your routine helps.

Yoga poses and stretches are designed to help give some extra strength to your muscles as well as improving the body’s mobility.

New to Yoga

Yoga is accessible to any body, and there’s several great virtual classes to try out at home. Search for beginner poses and light stretches and follow along on video.

Trying some of the poses at home will help you get familiar with some of the stretches that will be included in a beginner in person class.

Most all yoga studios will have daily beginner options to join. These classes focus on slow movements and breath.

Breathing with Purpose

Begin to learn proper breathing techniques with your poses. Reaching slightly further into a stretch is easier when focusing on your breath.

Breathing in a deep breath and slowly releasing the air from your lungs allows for oxygen to flow through your body.

If you are new to breathwork techniques, joining a yoga class or a meditation class will allow you to have a teacher to guide your breaths.

Give Yoga a Try!

The knowledge of all the benefits that yoga provides is still unknown to many people. Yoga has helped me in several ways! It improved my posture, core strength and meditation skills.

Your mind and body really gets a chance relax during yoga and breath work. During yoga, it’s very easy to fall into a meditative state.
